Just Cause is set on a fictional Caribbean tropical island called "San Esperito", where the player works as CIA black ops agent Rico Rodriguez in a guerrilla war to overthrow San Esperito's dictator, Salvador Mendoza, who may be in possession of weapons of mass destruction. The game draws its premise (and name) from the real-life United States invasion of Panama, code-named "Operation Just Cause", which involved United States military action to overthrow military leader Manuel Noriega. The core gameplay consists of elements of a third-person shooter and a driving game, with a large, open world environment to move around in. On foot, the player's character is capable of walking, swimming, and jumping, as well as utilizing weapons and basic hand to hand combat. Players can take control of a variety of vehicles, including cars, boats, fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, and motorcycles. Players can also perform stunts with their cars in which they can stand on the roof and jump to another car, or choose to open their parachute while still in motion on the roof. Other key features of the game include skydiving, base jumping, and parasailing (by latching onto a moving car or boat while one's parachute is deployed).

The open, non-linear environment allows players to explore and choose how they wish to play the game. Although storyline missions are necessary to progress through the game, players can complete them at their own leisure. When not taking on a storyline mission, players can free-roam. However, doing so can attract unwanted and potentially fatal attention from the authorities.

The player can also partake in a variety of optional side missions, for example, liberating a village or taking over a drug cartel hideout. These are generally (as indicated by most critics) quite repetitive but are necessary to gain points with certain factions.

25 to Life is an overly simple third-person shooter that has a story-driven single-player mode and a team-based multiplayer mode. The single-player starts you out in the role of Freeze, a gangster who's trying to get out of the game and escape with his wife and son. You're asked to do "one last job," which, of course, goes spectacularly wrong and messes everything up. You'll also play as a cop surrounded by dirty cops and as a gang leader who gets banished to Mexico only to end up taking over the organized-crime scene there by force. The story is all over the place, and since the playable characters are to a certain extent connected, you're never really sure if you're playing as a good guy or a bad guy. But the narrative is so lame that you probably won't care.

A 3D action-adventure RPG set in a fantasy world in which you journey through underground cities, massive towers, frozen fortresses and more in your ultimate quest to overthrow an evil dragon, Blade of Darkness features four main characters, each trained in specific areas of combat. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is an adventure video game with elements of action-adventure. It was released for the Windows and Xbox platforms on 17 April 2006 by Norwegian developer Funcom. On 1 March 2007, an episodic sequel entitled Dreamfall Chapters was announced.
Dreamfall was generally well received by both critics and players. The media praised the story and the characterisation in the game but criticized its fighting and stealth elements, as well as the abrupt cliffhanger ending. The PC and Xbox versions of the game received the average scores of 75% and 73%, respectively.
In The Longest Journey, it was established that the Earth, in fact, consists of two parallel worlds: technology-driven Stark, where the players are implied to reside, and magic-driven Arcadia. The transition between the worlds is only possible in dreams and through an extremely rare ability called "Shifting".
